WORSHIP IN THE SQUARE

is nearly impossible to describe. God showed up. And we fell down. And we danced. And sang. And were silent . . . or very, very noisy.

Nobody planned it, and nobody controlled it. We typically worshipped for 4 hours, sometimes for more than 6. And we weren't even trying. Very often Dan did 8-by-10-foot paintings during the worship. And sometimes he told stories. He almost never preached.

People came from all over. We worshipped in snow and rain, in sweltering heat and lawn sprinklers.

It wasn't an Inner City Ministry; we weren't feeding the poor. But the poor came anyway. Some of them got delivered. Some of them got healed. We all got healed and delivered in many ways.

In the end, it only lasted 2 1/2 years. The cloud moved on, and so did we. But it left a dent. Perhaps even a hole. Many of us were ruined for ordinary church.

In the years that followed we discovered that we had experienced the same wave of the Holy Spirit that had hit Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship several years earlier, and we didn't even know it.

The pictures here reflect just a fraction of the story. But it was a start; many of us believe something was deposited in our city that is yet to come to full manifestation.

It certainly launched many of us into our next phase of life and ministry. Dan and Nancy seem destined to do stuff outdoors. This was just the first.

If you want to shift a city, you can't do it from indoors. You have to put your lamp on a lampstand.

That's what Worship in the Square was -- a Light . . . on a very important lampstand.
