ART
in the
CITY

Many years ago, the Lord gave Dan his life mission:

"To shift the culture of cities;

if you do a good job,

it will last five hundred years."

Late in the Worship in the Square season, Dan had a dream. He found himself  standing in Moore Square, the Lord saying "2 to 2 1/2 blocks west/northwest of here is a broken down stone table-- a desecrated altar-- I want you (and you all) to tear it down and replace it with a righteous altar."

The dream was so real, Dan actually spent several weeks snooping around basements and rooftops all over downtown!

In the same season, the Lord led Dan to build a Clean-Up-Raleigh-Kit: A thousand-pound easel with an 8 x 10 canvas, lights, and a sound system. (See photos) Dan spent several years doing gigantic paintings and playing music in the heart of our city.

During that time, the city dug up its main street pedestrian mall and put in a brand new main street. It turns out, this was the literal interpretation of the dream. The old pedestrian mall was replete with broken down square tables, and had been built in an era when the leaders of the city had the spirit of NO all over them. Our new main street was a manifestation of the new heart for our city.

In that same season, Dan began painting all over town, doing nearly 500 paintings of the city, earning him the moniker, The Painter of Raleigh. Whenever and wherever he painted, he intentionally shifted the atmosphere around him.

This mission continues to this day: The frequencies of heaven--sound and light --released in the earth shifts the atmosphere and shifts culture.
